2022 Branscombe House Artist-in-Residence announces free classes and workshops

Branscombe House Artist-in-Residence Krystal Kiran will be hosting a series of free community classes, workshops, seminars and more beginning in April. Registered and drop-in programs will be offered weekly, bi-weekly and monthly through mid-December. Some of Kiran’s programs include:

  • Dance as Meditation: ages 16+; a movement class incorporating yoga, Pilates, breath work, musical exploration and meditation; offered weekly on Sundays beginning April 3 through December 11
  • Music Makers: Open Acoustic Jam with Krystal Kiran and Matt Yang: ages 19+; drop-in open rehearsal music sessions offered bi-weekly on Tuesdays; beginning April 12 through December 6
  • Seniors Seva: ages 55+; a movement/wellness class offered the first Sunday of the month; beginning April 3 through December 4
  • Heads Together Book Club: Creating Branscombe’s Virtual Library: ages 19+; an in-person/virtual book club meeting the first Thursday of the month; beginning April 7 through December 1
  • Courage to Dream Seminar Series: ages 16+; thematic seminars offered the first Saturday of the month; beginning April 2 through December 3

Some activities are offered as hybrid programs, available to attend in-person and/or via livestream on Instagram (@BranscombeHouse) or Zoom. Krystal Kiran is a Punjabi-Canadian performing artist and educator whose practice explores “third culture” identity and the arts as healing practices. She has performed locally, on Broadway, and toured internationally as an actor, dancer and choreographer.

The Branscombe House Artist Residency takes place in a restored Edwardian-style house in the residential area of historic Steveston. Branscombe House is located at 4900 Steveston Highway and is one of the earliest homes built in the area. The building’s first floor is fully accessible, including a ramp at the rear entrance and a universal washroom.
