Richmond seeks park-users’ feedback on tree planting at No.3 Road Dog Park off-leash area

06 September 2022

The City of Richmond is requesting park-users’ feedback on the potential planting of trees at the No.3 Road Dog Park off-leash area, located at the intersection of No.3 and Dyke Roads at the South Arm of the Fraser River.

The dike was recently upgraded at this location, which brought upgrades to the park including over 100 trees planted, improved seating areas, refurbished ‘Dog Party’ public art; dog obstacle course features, planting areas and new benches.

While a significant number of new trees were planted as part of the recently completed dike upgrade, the City has received feedback that more trees may be desired to replace those removed as part of the project and/or provide trees at certain locations to create shaded seating opportunities.

As such, the City would like to hear from as many park-users as possible to understand the level of support for new trees and if so desired, identify potential planting locations and tree preferences.

Here are the ways the public can provide feedback;

  • LetsTalkRichmond.ca: From Tuesday, September 6 to Sunday, October 2, 2022 information and an online survey will be available. Visit letstalkrichmond.ca/dog-park-tree-planting
  • Drop in information session: On Saturday, September 10, from 9 to 11 a.m., staff will be onsite at the park to for conversations, answer questions and receive feedback.

Upon completion of the public engagement process, staff will review the results and determine next steps. Should it be determined that the community would like to see more trees planted on site, the City will move in that direction, and explore the feasibility of organizing a volunteer tree planting event to engage the dog park users. Should an event of this nature occur, staff will reach out to the community through site signage and social media to organize the event.
