Richmond’s Engaging Artists in Community Program seeking community partners

The City of Richmond is inviting non-profit organizations, service organizations, community associations, libraries and schools to apply to participate in the 2023 Engaging Artists in Community Program. This program pairs a community partner with an artist or artist team to work creatively on a project that addresses relevant issues or topics of concern through the arts.

Selected community partners can provide participants with a safe and inclusive space for individual and collective creative expressions. Artist projects may include, but are not limited to, public performances, sculptures, participatory art installations, hands-on art activities, workshops, exhibitions, digital media based artwork and other socially-engaged art forms.

Past projects include Stories of Home – Past and Present by Jean Bradbury in partnership with Richmond Multicultural Community Services, Minoru Seniors Legacy Stories by Catrina Megumi Longmuir in partnership with Minoru Seniors Society and Harvest Full Moon Project by Marina Szijarto in partnership with City Centre Community Association.

The deadline to apply is Monday, July 25, 2022 with community-based artist projects to happen in 2023. Selected applicants will be notified in August 2022 and City staff will work with applicants to develop the artist opportunity and participate in an artist selection process. Commissioned projects will aim to engage a culturally-diverse and multigenerational audience.
