Masks no longer required in City facilities

Mask wearing is encouraged to protect public safety

In keeping with the latest update from the Provincial Health Officer, the City of Richmond has lifted its mandatory mask-wearing requirement for City-operated facilities commencing Friday, March 11.

Council continues to take a cautious, measured approach to pandemic safety measures. Supporting this, Council passed a Resolution in October 2020 to make Richmond one of the first jurisdictions to require mandatory mask wearing in its buildings as an additional layer of protection for the public and staff.. The Province followed, issuing a BC-wide mask requirement soon after.

While masks are no longer required in City-operated facilities, the wearing of masks will be encouraged and appreciated in City facilities including community and aquatic centres, arenas and ice centres, libraries, cultural and heritage locations and City Hall.

Wearing a mask provides added safety for the public and staff. A good reminder is that every individual may have varying levels of comfort during this transition period. We should all respect each person’s choice. People are reminded to stay home if feeling sick.

Safety protocols will remain in place in many facilities, as required by the provincial health officer, including enhanced hygiene practices and plexi-glass barriers. Additional updates will be shared if, and when the Provincial Health Officer announces further updates.
