Richmond Wins ParticipACTION 2024 Community Challenge
Richmond has been named British Columbia’s Most Active Community by ParticipACTION, the national organization promoting fitness and healthy living. The 2024 Community Challenge encouraged communities across Canada to get active in June. Richmond's participation and dedication to physical fitness took them to #1 in BC.
This is the second time Richmond hit top spot in BC, winning previously in 2022. Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2024 Community Challenge, making this success possible!
Examples of 2024 Community Challenge events & activities
- Bingo Fit: By completing a fun activity bingo card, people had a chance to win a three-month fitness pass.
- Guided Walks: Stroll along Finn Slough and the South Dyke trail, as well as the Shell Road Trail, South Dyke Trail, Terra Nova Dyke Trail and Rural Park.
- Minoru Park and City Hall Public Art Scavenger Hunt: Get active outdoors while searching for public artworks.
- Strength and Stretch - Try-It sessions: Strength training with weights and resistance bands.
- Boot Camp: Total-body workouts using resistance equipment, dumbbells, and body weight.
- Strength and Conditioning: Full body strength training sessions using resistance equipment and body weight.
- Tabata: High-intensity interval training sessions combining traditional resistance training, body weight, endurance, and calisthenics.
- Yoga: Gentle yoga to relax, breathe, and relieve stress.
- Hatha Yoga: Multi-level workouts to increase flexibility and strength, relieve stress, and practice active relaxation.
- Interval Workout: Strength and cardio training in a variety of work-to-rest ratio intervals.
- Nutrition Series: Healthy eating workshops.
- Community fun runs: Includes activity booths and a scavenger hunt, as well as mini-fitness activities such as Dance Fit, kick boxing, cardio, core, and yoga.
- Sports Tournaments: Soccer/football tournaments and field games.
- Drumfit: A fitness ball and drumsticks workout.
- Dance Combo: Introductory dance classes for kids.
- Jazz Dancing: Dance class exploring syncopated rhythms and free expression.
- Wheelchair Tai Chi: Focusing on peace of mind and good health.
- Ultimate Kickboxing: Advanced high-intensity kickboxing class.
- Wing Chun: Martial arts classes teaching the basics of Wing Chun.
- Musical Theatre Dance: A high-energy dance class focusing on performing popular musical numbers.
- Ultimate Ballroom Dancing: Ballroom dancing with a professional instructor.
- Walking Soccer: Low-impact, no-running games of soccer.
