Intergovernmental Relations and Protocol Unit

The Intergovernmental Relations and Protocol Unit (IRPU) is responsible for liaising with other governmental organizations on issues of mutual concern, as well as facilitating financial and other support from those organizations for City and community initiatives. In addition this unit manages Protocol activities between the City and senior governments, and the international diplomatic community.

One of the duties of this Unit is to oversee the hosting of visitors and delegations at City Hall and other City Facilities. See Tours & Delegations for more information.

Health Authority Liaison
While strong partnerships have been forged between the Recreation and Community Social Services Departments and the Health Authority, the City maintains official communication with the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority through the Intergovernmental Relations section. The newly structured Authority is a voluntary, citizen based committee appointed by the Provincial Government to ensure the provision of health care services in the Vancouver, Richmond, North Shore, and Coast Garibaldi Health Regions.

The Authority directs the integration of health services and agencies to create a "more efficient, cost effective, accessible, and relevant system of care" both for residents and those who travel to the region for care.
