City Departments Overview
Finance and Corporate Services
The Finance and Corporate Services Department is comprised of organizational units such as Information Technology, City Clerks, Finance, Real Estate Services, Customer Service, Enterprise Services and Administration and Compliance. This latter function ensures the reliability, integrity, efficiency and effectiveness of policy directives from Council and also ensures that professional standards and practices are in place within the organization.
Engineering and Public Works
Provides engineering design, construction and maintenance services for the City's infrastructure and all City owned buildings. Delivers and maintains the local water supply, as well as sewer and drainage, dykes and irrigation system, and is responsible for environmental services and corporate sustainability.
Community Services
The Community Services Department works to ensure the provision of recreation, arts and cultural opportunities and preserves our City heritage and manages City owned recreational facilities. This section overseas the design, construction, and maintenance of City parks, trails and green spaces, the fostering of civic beautification initiatives and coordinating sports programming, special events and filming in the City’s parks and facilities. The Department also addresses the emerging community and business sector issues and opportunities with Social Planning, Affordable Housing, Diversity Services, Youth Services and Senior Services.
Planning & Development
The Planning & Development Department is responsible for issues and services affecting the physical form of the City, including design, building and construction, development, land use, traffic and transportation, and social planning.
Law & Community Safety
The Law and Community Safety Department brings together the City's public safety providers including police, fire-rescue, and emergency services, along with sections responsible for bylaw enforcement and for legal and regulatory matters.
