Gateway Theatre

Gateway Theatre Gateway Theatre is a professional theatre company, home to Gateway Academy for the Performing Arts, and is a popular rental venue. Located in Richmond’s city centre overlooking beautiful Minoru Park, the Gateway is an easy 20-minute drive from Vancouver, Delta & Surrey, or 1 hour from Bellingham.

Since we first rang up the curtain in 1984, this 540-seat theatre has become the place where Richmond goes to play. Not surprising really. Rousing musicals, roaring comedies, heart-warming drama; they’re all are part of our line-up. As one of the most beautiful theatres in Canada, comfortable seating, great sightlines, superb acoustics, and state-of-the-art sound systems have earned the Gateway a stellar reputation with performers and audiences alike.

The cornerstones of our business are:

Gateway Theatre Main StageGateway Theatre productions

  • On the 541 seat MainStage - 4 annual productions.
  • In 100 seat Studio B - 2 productions annually in The Studio Series, a celebration of the work of emerging Canadian writers, directors, and designers.
  • SceneFirst - an exciting four-day series featuring staged readings of new scripts, a "sneak peek" at plays under consideration for future seasons.

  • We provide opportunities for youth to experience the magic of live theatre through sponsored performances and outreach programs designed to introduce them to career opportunities in the arts.
  • We support other charities through ticket donations.
