Pond Restoration Project

Looking across the pond with the London Farm house in the backgroundThe London Heritage Farm Society is undertaking the restoration of the old pond.  Phase one has been completed with the construction of the berm along the property edge to retain the water which previously emptied into the drainage canal.

The berm has increased the previous high water level by approximately twelve inches and has created a nice wetland area on the eastern alcove of the pond.  The higher water level has also naturally drowned out some of the unwanted grasses along the edge.

Phase two will see some selective cutting of weeds and bushes along the edge of the pond and the construction of the natural cedar wooden walkway along the west side and across the berm.  Work is being done at times of the year when there is no impact on the variety of small birds that use the bull rushes for nesting.

The restoration is a three year project.
