How to Register to Vote
Eligibility
to be eligible to register to vote, you must be:
- a CANADIAN CITIZEN;
- 18 years of age or older on election day;
- a resident of BC for 6 months;
- a resident of Richmond for 30 days; and
- you must not be disqualified by law from voting.
When to Register
Before September 27, 2011, you can register in advance of voting by visiting the Election Office at Richmond City Hall, 6911 No. 3 Road, which is open weekdays from 8:15 am - 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday (excluding holidays).
After the advance voter registration period closes on September 27th (5:00 pm), you can still register when you go to vote. You will need two pieces of ID when you go to the voting place.
Identification Requirements
When registering at the voting place, each voter must produce 2 identification documents that provide evidence of the applicant’s identity and place of residence. At least one of the identification documents must include the voter’s signature.

- BC Driver’s Licence
- Owner’s Certificate of Vehicle Insurance
- BC ID Card
- BC Gold Care Card
- Credit Cards or Debit Cards
- Birth Certificate
- Canadian Citizenship Card
- Social Insurance Card
- BC Care Card
- Property Tax Notice or Utility Bill
