Sports Capital Projects

Nations Cup 2006The Parks Division develops, designs and builds a variety of sports related Major and Minor Capital projects every year for the City. Some of these projects include new sports facilities, sports fields and ball diamonds.

The following list are Major and Minor Capital projects currently underway:

Minoru Park Oval and Track
Artificial Turf Sportsfield Construction
On March 10th, 2008, City Council approved the construction of an artificial turf sportsfield in Minoru Park. This new field will be constructed inside of the track facility. Development is scheduled to begin during the last week of June 2008, with completion in October of this year.

For your safety, sections of the running track and adjacent parking lot will be closed to the public.

As an alternative walking/jogging path, they area surrounding the lakes at the north end of Minoru Park is recommended.

King George Park 
Artificial Turf Project
On December 3rd, 2007, City Council approved the development of an artificial turf sportsfield at King George Park as a multi-use sports complex to meet the demands of a growing community.

At present, there are over 10,000 organized sports users competing for practise time for high quality sportsfields with lights.

The first phase will be relocating and removing trees during the winter season.

In 2008, the City of Richmond will be constructing this new field during the summer and is scheduled to be completed in October. The field will be located east of the existing Water Park.
