Drop into the Art Gallery to view two new exhibitions
The Gallery presents two exhibitions: Mike Bourscheid’s Sunny Side Up and other sorrowful stories and Codes of silence, a group exhibition featuring four videos by Shirley Bruno, Aleesa Cohene, Caroline Monnet, and Cauleen Smith, alongside selected paintings from the Gallery’s Collection. Sunny Side Up and other sorrowful stories recreates the original film set of Bourscheid’s video work Agnes in the octagonal space at the Richmond Art Gallery, featuring his delightfully inventive sculptures fashioned from a surprising mix of found and everyday objects—hair extensions, a leather saddle, a suitcase, and even a Ouija board. Codes of silence presents a diverse selection of multifaceted video works where the voice is muted, obscured, withheld, unexplained, or used sparingly in ways that cultivate quietness, interiority, intimacy, and community. These videos are shown in conjunction with paintings by Toni Onley, Leslie Poole, and Harry Stanbridge; together they create a space of meditation and contemplation for gallery visitors.
Visit the Gallery’s Art Lounge and make a collage inspired by Mike Bourscheid’s exhibition.
