Richmond RCMP find no evidence of criminality in voter manipulation

Late last week, Richmond RCMP received two allegations of possible voter manipulation associated to the social media app WeChat. Thus far in their investigation, they have uncovered no evidence to substantiate a criminal or British Columbia Local Government Act charge. Subject or subjects involved with the allegations have cooperated with police.
To date, the Richmond RCMP has only received third party allegations of wrong doing in the election process. No individuals have come forward to the Richmond RCMP citing that they have been victimized in any matters related to the voting process. The Richmond RCMP continues to encourage anyone who believes they may have been a victim to come forward and speak to them.
Richmond RCMP continues to investigate concerns of possible voter manipulations in the upcoming 2018 Civic Election.
The City thanks the Richmond RCMP for their quick action investigating this issue. Our focus remains on ensuring Saturday's general election is conducted fairly and in accordance with all pertinent regulations.
