Digital talent to hit the stage and screen at Richmond World Festival
Cinevolution’s Your Kontinent Digital Carnival is back for another evening of innovative audio-visual storytelling at the Richmond World Festival, presented by Coast Capital Savings.
This year’s Digital Carnival will celebrate cutting edge digital technology and promising media artists from Metro Vancouver and Canada. Festival guests can look forward to unique and compelling pieces that incorporate sound, image, movement and more. The Digital Carnival runs from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the Global Village presented by Port of Vancouver. The Richmond World Festival is a free day-long celebration of music food and culture that runs from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 3.
Cinevolution launched the Digital Carnival in 2012 with the mission to bring new media art works outside of the Vancouver art scene into the community. Joining the Richmond World Festival in 2015 has helped their program reach a much broader audience.
"Seeing so many kids and parents, who normally wouldn't have chance to experience this type of art, are so engaged with the artists and their creation, it really feels rewarding," said Lynn Chen, program director of Cinevolution. "We really hope these artistically innovative, socially relevant, and emotionally engaging media art works will generate curiosity, expand perspectives and enrich the conversation about the world we are living today."
Water is the theme of this year’s Digital Carnival, highlighting social, political, scientific, cultural and philosophical aspects seen in our river and ocean fronting community and beyond.
"This exhibition explores our current relationship with water and aims to foster a more mindful and meaningful relationship through reflection, introspection, advocacy and activism to prioritize its importance for future generations," said Wynne Palmer, a Vancouver-based integrated media artist and curator of this year's Digital Carnival.
The Digital Carnival’s featured artist this year is Sammy Chien, a Taipei born, Vancouver-based media artist.
