Richmond dancers bring A Winter’s Gift to summer
08 June 2016
Dance enthusiasts are invited to the ballet as Richmond Arts Centre dancers take the stage at Gateway Theatre. The popular dance program puts its best foot forward with advanced level dancers performing in its first ever gala-style show. On Sunday, June 12 at 5 p.m., dive into A Winter’s Gift, a tale of envy, mischief, love and friendship—with the help of fairies and a little bit of magic, of course.
“I am so excited to share the hard work and talent of these dancers with the rest of the city,” said Miyouki Jego, head Arts Centre dance instructor and choreographer. “I am hopeful this gala will continue to grow each year and become an annual show, not just for the students’ parents, but also for the public looking to enjoy a beautiful ballet.”
This show features members of the Richmond Youth Dance Company, Richmond Adult Company, Company Apprentices and Pre-Company classes, who all train two to three times a week.
A Winter’s Gift takes place at Gateway Theatre, 6500 Gilbert Road. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance online at www.gatewaytheatre.com/tickets or by calling the Gateway Theatre box office at 604-270-1812.
The 5 p.m. gala performance of A Winter’s Gift follows the school year dance program recitals (Seasons, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.) which feature beginner and intermediate level performances in ballet, jazz, musical theatre and tap.
The Richmond Arts Centre is a key component of Richmond’s arts community and provides high quality arts education opportunities in a wide variety of disciplines including visual arts, dance and movement, music and the soon to be introduced theatre program. The current school year dance program proudly hosts approximately 500 dancers with ages ranging from four to 73.
