Short Term Rentals
In Richmond, residents can offer two types of short term rentals (less than 30 days) in their home – Bed and Breakfast rentals, or boarding/lodging rentals.
- Bed and Breakfasts (B&Bs) require a City issued licence. This includes residents who host traditional B&Bs as well as those who are simply tenting rooms within their home, such as short term vacation rentals. For more information, please see the Bed and Breakfast Business page.
- Boarding/lodging applies when the short term rental involves no more than two people at a time, and this does not require a licence.
Short term rental of the entire house or residential unit for less than 30 days is not permitted under any circumstance.
Long term rentals of more than 30 days are still allowed in residential zones (single-family and multi-family) as long as there is no B&B operation in the home.
