Important Notice

As part of the City of Richmond's efforts to improve service delivery, we are transitioning emailed permit applications to our digital application platform, MyPermit. Effective January 1, 2025, we will no longer be accepting emailed applications for Trades Permits that don’t require drawings or review. In person applications are still accepted for all Trades Permits.

Not all Trades Permits are eligible for online application and permits that require further review and drawings may be applied for via email or in person. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact permithelp@richmond.ca.

MyPermit - Permitting Portal

Most construction and development projects will require you to have various approvals and permits in place before you can begin work. We are making it easier for you to apply and pay for development applications and building permits online by developing an online self-service application portal.

The City of Richmond introduced MyPermit on November 20, 2023. As an applicant, you can easily navigate from your MyRichmond account to MyPermit. From MyPermit you can apply for and manage your City development applications and building permits, eliminating the need to visit City Hall in-person. With MyPermit, many permits are issued instantly upon submission, so you can start your work without delay.

MyPermit saves time and provides improved access to City services:

  • 24/7 Online Access
No more waiting for office hours. MyPermit allows you to submit your applications at any time, from anywhere.
  • Secure Online Payments and Invoicing
Manage your payments securely online and receive invoices instantly, so you don't have to worry about mailing cheques or visiting City Hall in person.
  • Real-time Communications and Issuance
Stay informed throughout the entire process with regular email communications at key milestones in your application. Many permits are issued instantly upon submission, so you can start your work without delay.
  • Self-Service Options
Work at your own pace, save your applications for later and address requests for information from the convenience of your online dashboard.

We also have a mobile application for building and development applications. You can conveniently apply for and securely pay for your application from your mobile device or tablet.
