Transportation Projects
The City of Richmond's Transportation Department generally undertakes several cycling and pedestrian facility, traffic calming and traffic signal projects each year. Arterial Road and Crosswalk Improvement Programs
Explanation of Project
Special Crosswalks: Upgrade of existing crosswalks to add overhead illuminated signs with downward lighting and pedestrian pushbutton-activated flashing amber lights.
Arterial Roadway Improvements: Upgrade of existing intersections to improve road safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

Scope of Work
- Special Crosswalk: Installation of overhead lights and flashers and side-mounted beacons and push buttons.
- Garden City Road & Westminster Highway: asphalt walkway with barrier along east and south sides fronting 9120 Westminster Highway
- Granville Avenue & Cooney Road: removal of channelized right-turn island at northwest corner
- Cambie Road & St. Edward's Drive: removal of channelized right-turn island at northeast corner
- Cambie Road & No. 4 Road: new left-turn lanes on all four legs
- Westminster Highway & No. 2 Road: removal of channelized right-turn island at northwest corner, enlarge pedestrian refuge areas, modification of intersection geometry and traffic signal

Transit-Related Amenity and Roadway Improvement Programs
Explanation of Project
Upgrade of existing bus stops to become accessible for mobility-impaired users; provision of shelters and benches at bus stops; and provision of pedestrian connections to and from bus stops.
Scope of Work
- Installation of bus stop landing pads and railings.
- Installation of shelter and benches at bus stops.
- Construction of concrete sidewalks or asphalt walkways to connect to and from bus stops.
- Upgrade of crosswalks connecting to bus stops.
