Heritage Designation
Under the provincial Local Government Act, a local government may adopt a Heritage Designation Bylaw to formally protect a heritage resource. Unless authorized by a Heritage Alteration Permit, a person must not make exterior changes to the designated resources.
Unlike a Heritage Conservation Area which is protected as a whole, individual properties can be protected through a Heritage Designation Bylaw.
