Search Oral Histories

Oral Histories Search provides listings by name and subject of more than 400 oral history interviews in the Archives holdings. A number of full transcripts are available online.

The Oral Histories listed here come from two main sources.

  1. Britannia Oral History Project.
In 1991 nineteen recorded interviews were conducted with former Britannia workers and neighbours of the historic shipyard site. Later, the interviews and all supporting documentation were deposited at the City of Richmond Archives.
  2. Richmond Oral History Project.
Between 1971 and 1976, approximately 400 individuals were interviewed on a broad range of topics relating to the history and development of Richmond. At this time, before the establishment of the City of Richmond Archives, little historical information about our community was available for research.

The City of Richmond Archives provides equipment to listen to the interview tapes in the Reference Room.
