Councillor Sheldon Starrett
Sheldon Starrett was first elected to Richmond City Council during the 2026 municipal election, after campaigning extensively on prioritizing public safety for local residents and businesses. He is a community activist, having founded the group known as Keep Richmond Safe to advocate for safer streets in Richmond by finding ways to reduce disorder and crime.
Sheldon strongly believes that the 'Four Pillars' approach to dealing with the drug crisis has not effectively been implemented in British Columbia, and would like to work with all levels of government to prioritize education and prevention, detox, treatment, and enforcement. Championing access to detox and treatment to bring Richmond residents home drug-free will be top of mind.
Sheldon has spent many years in public service, previously as a policy advisor to an economic minister in the Harper government, and currently in his capacity as a subject matter expert and consultant in liquor. He has worked with private liquor retail and
hospitality, and also with Canadian wineries. Sheldon is very passionate about supporting local Canadian vintners, distillers, and brewers and would like to see more partnerships with restaurants and local special events to strengthen domestic economic resilience.
Sheldon would like to see transit access expanded, better use of existing community amenities, local economic development enhanced, and the city develop a modern and inclusive vision for all Richmond future generations.
