Councillor Kevin Lai

Kevin Lai was elected to Richmond City Council in October 2026. He brings a background in business, construction, and community leadership, with a focus on practical solutions, government accountability, and meaningful public engagement.

Kevin immigrated to Canada in 1993 and grew up in the Lower Mainland. He studied Interactive Arts at Simon Fraser University and pursued further education in residential construction and building management. With over a decade of experience as a general
contractor, along with a background in design, manufacturing, and international trade, he understands the challenges facing homeowners, local businesses, and the construction industry.

Before entering municipal politics, Kevin was actively involved in grassroots community advocacy. As the founder of the Advance Richmond Community Association, he helped organize residents, businesses, and community groups to address concerns involving public safety, housing, property rights, and government decision-making.

As a father and Richmond resident, Kevin believes that a strong community begins with safe neighborhood, responsible government, and opportunities for future generations.

He is committed to improving communication between City Hall and residents, making municipal services more efficient, promoting fiscal responsibility, and ensuring that community voices are heard in decisions affecting Richmond's future.

His guiding principle is simple: Leadership begins with listening.
