Disease Control

Communicable Disease Program

The Richmond Health Department is responsible for following up on all food and water borne diseases including Salmonella, Campylobacter, E. Coli, Giardia, Shigella and Norwalk Virus.

The purpose of the follow-up is to try and determine the source of the infection and to minimize the spread of the disease. In order to accomplish this, food handlers and care givers may have to be excluded from work. In addition, food premises may have to be closed and/or food may have to be recalled or discarded.

The Richmond Health Department is a section of Richmond Health Services, a Provincial Government Agency under the umbrella of the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority.
