European Chafer Treatment Rebate

Due to anticipated drought conditions, the City will not be implementing the rebate for 2024. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Check back in June 2025 for updates on the potential relaunch of the rebate.
2023 Rebate
From Jul 10 to 28, 2023, the City offered a package rebate on nematode purchases via the MyRichmond online portal.
- Sales are limited to one package per Richmond household.
- A package will cost $21.50 + tax on the regular price of $42. The remaining 50% will be paid by the City of Richmond.
- Pick up of the product will require proof of residence (driver’s licence, passport, etc.). Residents who purchase nematodes for treatment of European chafer will also need to be issued a non-transferable lawn watering exemption before pick up.
- Purchased nematode packages will be available for pick-up at the following locations and times: Sunday, July 30 at the City’s Works Yard (5599 Lynas Lane) from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
When purchasing nematodes from the registration page, note that availability of products is based on a first come, first served basis, with a limit of 500 units. Limit of one per household.
How to make a purchase
Residents interested in purchasing nematodes will need a MyRichmond account. If you do not have a MyRichmond account, register before purchase. Call the Registration Call Centre (Mon to Fri, 8:30am-5:00pm) at 604-276-4300 for more information or assistance registering for a MyRichmond account.
Picking up your package
Your nematodes will be available for pick up on Sunday, July 30 at the City’s Works Yard (5599 Lynas Lane) from 10:00am to 2:00pm. In order to receive the product, you will need to provide a copy of your registration confirmation or receipt (digital or printed copy) as well as a piece of identification with the same name and address you registered under.
Note: You will only be able to pick-up your nematodes during your registered time. Residents who do not come during their registration time will not receive their product.

If I can’t come during my registered time, can someone pick-up my nematodes for me?
Yes, as long as they provide a copy of your registration confirmation or receipt (digital or printed copy) as well as a piece of identification with your name and address.
Will I need a watering exemption permit to apply nematodes to my lawn?
Yes. If you are treating your lawn with nematodes and need to water outside of the water restrictions, a permit is required and can be obtained online. Please provide a copy of receipt for the nematodes or a copy of the invoice from a company with the applicant's address. The permit fee is $39.50 per dwelling unit for non-metered residents; or $0.00 for metered residents. More information can be found on the Lawn Watering page.
If I have multiple family members registered under MyRichmond account can I purchase nematodes for each person?
No, nematodes are limited to one per address.
Can I hold a product for pick-up at a later date?
No, products are only available for pick-up during your registered time.
I would like to purchase nematodes, but I don’t have the ability to access the program online. Is there another way I can make a purchase?
Yes, you can call a program administrator at 604-204-8902, Mon-Fri, 8:30am-5:00pm and they will help you register.
