Dog Waste Collection

Starting in February 2024 Richmond began a pilot program for the collection of dog waste as part of the City’s ongoing work to improve waste management services. Clearly marked red bins for dog waste have been placed at the entrance of the three off-leash dog areas located in the following parks:

The purpose of this pilot program is to test feasibility of diverting dog waste from disposal in the landfill, where it is produces the harmful greenhouse gas methane. The dog waste in the red bins will be collected, sorted (separating plastic and waste) and the waste will be processed at a Metro Vancouver waste water treatment facility.

Important notes:
  • Bins are for disposal of dog waste only
  • Do not use for other pet waste or garbage/recycling
