Tree Collection & Chipping

Richmond offers several options for recycling your tree after the holidays. Help return your tree to nature and create new resources!

Charity Tree Chipping Event
Sat Jan 4 & Sun Jan 5
9am - 4pm
Garry Point Park

Alternatively, residents of Richmond can drop off Christmas Trees for free at the Richmond Recycling Depot.

Christmas trees can also be collected through curbside green cart collection by cutting up trees and gathering in 3 feet x 2 feet bundles or putting into green carts. Branches must be less than 4 inches in diameter. Remember to remove those ornaments and tinsel from the tree first!

Preparing for Winter Weather

Snowfall accumulations can impact collection services. Here are a few ways you can help recycling and garbage collection during winter weather:

  • For the most up to date service information, please visit the Collection Schedule page
  • Keep the tops of your carts clear of snow so carts can be opened easily by collection crews
  • If possible, help collection crews by ensuring the path to your carts is clear of snow or ice
