Hours: Seven days a week from 9:00am to 6:15pm. Depot is closed on the following statutory holidays:

Thermostats Are Now Accepted at the Richmond Recycling Depot
Starting January 1, 2023, plastic bags, plastic overwrap and other flexible plastic packaging will be collected as one category, Flexible Plastics.

Thermostats Are Now Accepted at the Richmond Recycling Depot
The items accepted include electronic, smart and mercury-containing (aka electromechanical) thermostats. Visit the Thermostat Recovery Program website to learn more about thermostat recycling.

Note: This thermostat recycling program doesn’t include thermometers, pressure gauges, barometers or loose mercury.

Items Accepted at the Depot

The items listed below are accepted for free drop-off for Richmond residents at the Recycling Depot.

Aluminium

Includes:

Batteries & Cell Phones

Includes:
  • Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd)
  • Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH)
  • Lithium Ion (Li-Ion)
  • Nickel Zinc (N-Zn)
  • Small Sealed Lead Acid (SSLA/Pb)
  • Lithium Primary
  • Alkaline (AA, AAA, 9V, etc.)
  • Cell phones (and their batteries) - all types

Cooking oil & Animal Fat

! All cooking oil and animal fat must be in a sealed plastic or glass container (maximum size 5 litres). Drop-off limit of 10 litres per person, per day.

Corrugated Cardboard

Includes:
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Flattened moving boxes
  • Clean pizza boxes

! Please remove packaging and liners. No dirty or wet cardboard. Limit of 0.76 cubic metre (1 cubic yard) per day.

Note:

  • Gasoline must be returned in approved Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC) container

! Ensure all items are kept dry so they can recycled and safely handled by staff

  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Plastic bags labelled compostable or biodegradable
  • Rocks, sod, soil & dirt
  • Styrofoam packaging chips, peanuts, foam noodles, blue or pink foam insulation board
  • Window glass
  • Wooden furniture (i.e. tables & chairs)
  • Other items as directed by staff

Services at the Recycling Depot

  • Residents and business operators can drop off 1 cubic yard of recyclables and 3 large appliances at the depot per day.
  • Residents can purchase recycling depot bags, rain barrels, backyard compost bins, Garbage Disposal Vouchers and/or Garbage Tags.
  • Residents can pick up free recycling resources such as Blue Box (standard or large size), yellow Mixed Paper Recycling Bag, grey Glass Recycling Bin, Blue Cart indoor collection bag, Green Can decals, brochures and other information materials.
