Progress on Sustainability


Richmond has a long history of reporting on sustainability outcomes, starting in 1989 when we issued our first State of the Environment report. Reporting has expanded with the adoption of the City's Sustainability Framework in 2010.

Sustainability Progress Report 2015 - 2020

Community Energy & Emissions Plan 2050

Richmond’s Community Energy and Emissions Plan (CEEP) 2050 includes multiple actions within eight strategic directions that together will set Richmond on a path to achieve 50% reduction in community GHG emissions by 2030, and reach net zero emissions by 2050.

The plan was adopted by City Council on Feb 14, 2022.

Climate Action Programs

The Climate Action Programs document highlights the City’s varied plans, strategies and actions that directly and indirectly address climate change issues in Richmond.

As a community made up of islands located in the Fraser River’s estuary, the City of Richmond was one of the first municipalities to establish itself as a national climate action leader.
