National Seniors Day & International Day of Older Persons - Monday, October 1

The City of Richmond annually celebrates this day with free and low cost community activities before and after October 1. While focused on residents over 55 years of age, everyone is welcome to attend the activities taking place. Register today!

Drumming Circle - Try-It Tag - Free

Release stress and tension in these unique session that focuses primarily on African rhythms and fundamentals of hand drumming on the Djembe. This is a wonderful opportunity to socialize and make new friends playing music together. Registration required.

Positive Aging Week, which is unique to the City of Richmond, is held in recognition of National Seniors Day in Canada and the United Nations International Day of Older Persons to celebrate the contribution of seniors to the community and promote healthy aging.

This biennial event is an information fair promoting health, wellness and safety. This fair includes a free keynote speaker, workshops, fitness try-it events and blood pressure checks. Visit booths from 40+ local organizations and companies offering programs, products and services specifically for those 55+ years.

Active and Connected in your Community: The Secret to Positive Aging

Dr. Joanie Sims-Gould RSW, PhD will speak about the importance of the role of community in keeping older adults active and connected. Dr. Sims-Gould is a community-based health researcher whose primary work focus is to “add life to years” to ensure that older adults can live independently in their homes for as long as possible.
