Description of Work

Mirrored PMMA on aluminum backing, pinned off the wall. The artwork is in a number of pieces and fits together like a puzzle. The artwork spans across the concrete block lobby wall from side to side.

Artist Statement

Each place is made up of various communities, intersecting in diverse ways like lines of energy: similarly, each of us is made up of varied histories, experiences, interests, the strands of one's identity. "ebb & flow" is a "snapshot," a moment in time, of a braided river. These rivers ebb and flow, come together, separate, change form and pattern - a metaphor for shifting, overlapping, interweaving communities, for the constant flux of society and culture.

Philosophical Approach

Our practice is centered on the public realm, an exploration of place, perception and landscape and culture. Reflections on how we interpret and reinterpret the world underlie our body of work, on how we position ourselves within the world around us, which is informed by materiality, light, space and movement; by context and perception, the filters of personal and cultural memory and experience and by the collaborative process.

Process

We develop a conceptual framework playing off the inherent qualities of the site - from the built space to the tactile experience to historical and cultural memory. We work in different media - whatever is most appropriate to the concept and the context.
