Description of Work

The Piano's on the Street program transforms unwanted pianos into works of art and places them unexpected outdoor public spaces for the passerby to enjoy. The Piano's on the Street program is sponsored by the Public Art Program, Pacey's Pianos and host locations including Britannia Heritage Shipyards, Richmond Nature Park, King George Park/ Cambie Community Centre, Terra Nova Rural Park, and Richmond Cultural Centre.

Artist Statement

The Piano's on the Street program unwanted pianos into works of art and places them unexpected outdoor public spaces for the passerby to enjoy. The artists responsible for the creative transformations are the students of Steveston London Secondary School Art Program.

The Steveston London students created the current Britannia piano which represents Richmond's Cultural Diversity, the immigrant and references the Japanese internment history of the site in the form of a suitcase.
