Description of Work

The Piano's on the Street program transforms unwanted pianos into works of art and places them unexpected outdoor public spaces for the passerby to enjoy. The Piano's on the Street program is sponsored by the Public Art Program, Pacey's Pianos and host locations including Britannia Heritage Shipyards, Richmond Nature Park, King George Park/ Cambie Community Centre, Terra Nova Rural Park, and Richmond Cultural Centre.

Artist Statement

The Piano's on the Street program unwanted pianos into works of art and places them unexpected outdoor public spaces for the passerby to enjoy. The artists responsible for the creative transformations are the students of Steveston London Secondary School Art Program.

Steveston London Secondary School Art Program students under the direction of Mr. Sid Akselrod in created the Nature Park piano inspired by Richmond's natural environment, local flora and fauna. This piano was first featured at Britannia Heritage Shipyards in 2016.
