Emergency Shelters & Housing Options
The City of Richmond is committed to supporting individuals and families experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. Working with a range of partners and local non-profit organizations, the City helps provide access to emergency shelters, temporary winter shelters, supportive housing, second-stage housing for women, and other specialized affordable housing options. Richmond House Emergency Shelter
The Richmond House Emergency Shelter, located at 12040 Horseshoe Way, provides temporary accommodation, meals and practical supports for people experiencing homelessness. Couples are welcome. The shelter is operated by The Salvation Army, Richmond and is the result of a partnership between the City of Richmond, The Salvation Army and BC Housing. Temporary Winter Shelters 2024/25
In Richmond, winter shelter options for people experiencing homelessness supplement the existing 55 permanent year-round shelter beds at Richmond House Emergency Shelter. Temporary Winter Shelters are inclusive spaces that provide access to sleeping mats or cots; a meal, snacks and beverages; and washrooms.
Richmond’s Temporary Winter Shelters are now closed for the 2024/25 winter season. Information about winter shelter options for the 2025/26 winter season will be available in late October 2025.
Supportive Housing
Aster Place Supportive Housing
The City of Richmond, BC Housing, and a non-profit operator, Community Builders, worked together to create supportive housing for up to 40 people, previously experiencing homelessness, at 2520 Smith Street. Aster Place - Richmond Supportive Housing provides 24/7 staffing and wrap around supports for residents.
Alderbridge Supportive Housing
Alderbridge Supportive Housing at 6999 Alderbridge Way is managed by RainCity Housing, an experienced and professional supportive housing operator. The three-storey building, with 40 safe and secure rental homes, provides supportive services including breakfast and a hot meal each day, life-skills training, and access to primary health and mental health services.
Applications
All applications for supportive housing units must go through BC Housing.
Second-Stage Housing for Women
Second-stage housing assists women who have left abusive relationships make plans for independent living.
Cadence Housing
Cadence Housing offers 15 units of transitional housing to women and children who have been impacted by violence, operated by Atira Women’s Society. Women can stay at Cadence for up to 24 months.

Harbour House
Harbour House is a 25-unit second-stage transitional housing program designed to support women and their children and is operated by Turning Point Housing Society.

Nova Transition House
Nova House is a 10-bed transition house for women and their children fleeing violence, operated by Chimo Community Services. The maximum length of stay is 30 days.

Other Specialized Housing
Storeys
The Storeys housing development offers a range of affordable housing options operated by different non-profit organizations including Turning Point Recovery Society, Coast Mental Health, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and Tikva Housing Society. The application process is unique to each organization.
BC Housing
BC Housing provides a range of affordable housing options for people with low to moderate incomes, including rent geared to income units. For more information about how to apply for rental housing, visit BC Housing.
