Biography:
Born in Fernie, BC on December 13, 1917, Bernard Joy Moffatt moved to Richmond in 1932 along with his mother, Amy and his sister Ann Sheila, when his father, Arthur John Moffatt, was appointed Municipal Clerk in Richmond. Bernard attended Richmond High School, leaving in 1935 with his Junior Matriculation. After a short term at UBC he joined the firm of Barrett-Lennard accountants in Vancouver, as an articled clerk. 

On enlistment in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Vancouver, February 12, 1941, Bernard was posted to bases in Manitoba, Alberta and Prince Edward Island for training. He was home on leave in July 1941 to find that his family had moved to Victoria for the duration of the war. He embarked for England in April 1942 after receiving his commission December 25, 1941. He initially spent some time ferrying planes across the Atlantic and was slightly injured in July 1942. By October 1942, he was stationed in Malta. At the time of his death, he was attached to the #69 Squadron and his Wellington aircraft went missing November 10, 1942, when it failed to return from operations.

Flying Officer Bernard Joy Moffatt has no known grave.  His name is inscribed on the Malta War Memorial.
