Grab your bicycle and helmet, and register for the City of Richmond’s 21st Island City, by Bike tour, taking place on Sunday, June 11. This free event is led by experienced and knowledgeable tour guides and is perfect for solo, friends and family cyclists wanting to enjoy the scenic outdoors and explore Richmond by bike.
Bike riders have the option of cycling along one of two routes that both start and end at Thompson Community Centre (5151 Granville Avenue).
- 10:00 a.m. long route: consists of 22.5-kilometres of on- and off-street biking. This route will feature Granville Ave, Garden City Road, Great Canadian Way and Charles Street Multi-use pathways, No. 3 Road, River Parkway, River Road, Crabapple Ridge Neighbourhood Bikeway, Williams Road, and the Railway Greenway.
- 11 a.m. short route: is a scenic, 8.5-kilometre ride that will take approximately one hour. It consists of on- and off-street biking along Lynas Lane, the Middle Arm Dyke Trail, a portion of Crabapple Ridge Neighbourhood Bikeway, Blundell Road, and the Railway Greenway.
Pre-ride bike and helmet safety checks will be offered for participants before the tours (9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.). The Richmond RCMP will be on site promoting bike registration as part of an anti-theft initiative. Richmond’s pilot e scooter program ambassadors will also be on-site to demonstrate and inform the public about e-scooters and e-bikes in the city.
After the tours, at approximately 12:30 p.m., participants will reconvene at Thompson Community Centre (5151 Granville Avenue) to enjoy snacks and draws for raffle prizes.
Bike tour participants arriving by vehicle are requested to park at the J.N. Burnett Secondary School parking lot.
