The City of Richmond is inviting public input to help identify gaps in the local agri-food and seafood processing sectors. This feedback will be essential in guiding the development of the Richmond Food Hub initiative. Community members and interest-holders can share their insights through online and in-person opportunities available now through Sunday, April 27.
"The Richmond Food Hub initiative presents a forward-looking opportunity to drive economic growth in our food sector,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “We are engaging businesses and residents to ensure this project aligns with our community’s needs while fostering innovation and sustainability in Richmond’s food industry.”
The initiative aims to support growth, innovation, and resilience in the local food sector. Food hubs can offer entrepreneurs and businesses essential services like equipment, training, and infrastructure to support expansion. This strengthens the local food industry, creating economic opportunities while enhancing food security, public health, and sustainability.
There are various ways for the public and local food business owners, managers and representatives to share their input throughout March and April 2025:
Online:
Visit LetsTalkRichmond.ca/FoodHub to learn more and complete an online survey. The survey will be open until 11:59pm on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
In-person:
The project team will be at some of Richmond’s key food locations to speak with food vendors and visitors through March and April, including:
- Richmond Public Market – Thursday, March 27 from 2:00 to 4:00pm
- Steveston Public Sales Float – Saturday, April 5 from 9:30 to 11:30am
- Richmond Night Market – Friday, April 25 from 7:00 to 9:00pm
This initiative is supported by a $1 million grant from the B.C. Ministry of Agriculture and Food toward the creation of a new commercial food hub as part of the BC Food Hub Network. The hub will be developed to meet the needs of both the local community and the food industry, fostering innovation while ensuring long-term commercial viability and sustainability.
