A new travelling exhibition, BC’s Marvellous Mushrooms, opens September 20, 2025 to April 5, 2026 at the Richmond Nature Park. This exhibition, created by the Royal BC Museum, explores the science and practical uses of mushrooms today, highlighting some of the most fascinating of the 3,400 known species in the province.

Presented by the Richmond Nature Park Society and on loan from the Royal BC Museum, this exhibit encourages visitors to learn more about BC mushrooms and their versatility. It introduces a cross-section of different species, some familiar, some bizarre, some delicious and some deadly. Their lives are interwoven with every part of British Columbia’s ecosystems. Featuring interpretive graphic panels, hand-sculpted mushroom models and foraging equipment, the exhibition facilitates visitors’ understanding of BC mushrooms and their many uses.

The Nature House is open daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Admission is by donation.

In addition, don’t miss these events at Richmond Nature Park that complement the exhibit:

About the Royal BC Museum
The Royal BC Museum explores the province’s human history and natural history, advances new knowledge and understanding of BC, and provides a dynamic forum for discussion and a place for reflection. The museum and archives celebrate culture and history, telling the stories of BC in ways that enlighten, stimulate and inspire. Located in Victoria on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen (Songhees and Xwsepsum Nations), the Museum is a hub of community connections in BC – onsite, offsite and online – taking pride in our collective histories.

BC’s Marvellous Mushrooms was created in 2021 to accompany the Royal BC Museum’s popular new handbook, “Mushrooms of British Columbia” by Andy MacKinnon and Kem Luther—a comprehensive and practical guide suitable for both professional and amateur mushroom enthusiasts. Copies of the handbook will be available for purchase in the Nature House.
