The City of Richmond, in partnership with local community organizations, invites residents to celebrate National Seniors Day on Wednesday, October 1, with engaging activities and events that honour seniors and promote healthy aging.
More than 10 free or low-cost programs and events will be offered throughout the city, including floor curling, an indoor pickleball tournament and a community walk through Minoru Park with Walk Richmond. These events aim to encourage social connection, physical activity and overall well-being among older adults.
As part of the celebration, the City will also launch its annual Positive Aging Campaign, which recognizes and showcases five inspiring seniors who contribute meaningfully to their community and exemplify the spirit of positive aging.
Celebrated across Canada, National Seniors Day – also designated as the International Day of Older Persons by the United Nations – is held each year on October 1 to commend and recognize the contributions seniors make to their communities.
Pre-registered and drop-in opportunities will be offered. A full list of activities and registration information can be found at richmond.ca/PositiveAging. A printed flyer can also be picked up from any Richmond Parks, Recreation and Culture facility.

The Positive Aging Campaign begins on National Seniors Day and runs Wednesday, October 1 to Tuesday, October 7. The campaign aims to reduce ageism by displaying positive images of aging in the community. It can be viewed on the City’s website and in-person at various City of Richmond community centres, the Seniors Centre at Minoru Centre for Active Living and City Hall.
In 2015, the City was formally recognized as an Age-Friendly B.C. Community by the Province of British Columbia, reflecting its commitment to supporting seniors’ well-being through policies, planning and services that enable older people to age actively. It was also named Canada’s Most Active Community in the national 2025 ParticipACTION Community Challenge, topping the list of hundreds of other communities across the country. Throughout the year, a variety of programs and activities are available for seniors. Seasonal 55+ Program Guides can be found online at richmond.ca/seniors or at any Richmond community centre.
