The City of Richmond is launching a one-year Commercial Truck Parking Pilot Program to support the local trucking industry and improve the flow of goods across the region.
“The trucking industry is vital to Richmond’s economy, supporting sectors such as construction and freight delivery, and contributing to local and regional supply chains,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “This pilot creates designated overnight parking in select industrial areas to help meet growing demand and keep our supply chains moving efficiently.”
The pilot program provides approximately 65 on-street commercial truck parking spaces in the Fraserwood, Ironwood, Mitchell Island and Vulcan Way industrial areas. Parking will be permitted overnight from 7:00pm and 7:00am, as indicated by posted signage.
Commercial truck operators must purchase a permit and register their licence plate with the City before using the designated spaces. Registration is limited to Richmond-based owners or operators, and can be completed online at richmond.ca/ParkingPermit. Registered vehicles will be recognized by City enforcement officers using licence plate recognition technology, eliminating the need for physical decals.
The pilot will allow the City to assess demand, monitor usage and enforcement, and determine the feasibility of a longer-term commercial truck parking program.
