Mayor Malcolm Brodie highlighted Richmond’s continued economic stability, progress on housing and sustained investment in infrastructure at the Richmond Chamber of Commerce’s Mayor’s Annual Address, delivered earlier today.

Speaking to business and community leaders, Mayor Brodie reflected on the past year’s achievements and how long-term planning and responsible investment continue to support local businesses, strengthen neighbourhoods and guide the City through ongoing economic uncertainty.

“Even during a period marked by economic pressures and global instability, Richmond continues to benefit from a diverse and well-balanced economy,” said Mayor Brodie. “Through careful planning, responsible investment and strong partnerships, we are maintaining stability while preparing for the future.”

The Mayor noted that Richmond’s economy remains strong, supported by more than 14,500 active businesses and approximately 125,000 local jobs, with ongoing construction activity signalling continued confidence across industrial, commercial and residential sectors.

Housing, infrastructure and community safety were central themes of the address, with the Mayor highlighting progress on affordable and rental housing delivery, major capital investments, and sustained funding for policing, fire services and road safety initiatives.

“The Richmond Chamber of Commerce was pleased to host Mayor Brodie’s Annual Address again this year. As the Mayor enters his final months in office, today’s discussion provided an opportunity to reflect on how long-term planning, investment in infrastructure, and a focus on livability and resilience have shaped Richmond’s growth over time. We appreciate the ongoing partnership with the City of Richmond and the opportunity to bring the business and community together for this important annual discussion,” said Shaena Furlong, President and CEO of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce.
