31 May 2022

Looking for a reason to get or stay active? The ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge starts Wednesday, June 1 running the month of June with City and community partners offering over 50 free or low-cost physical activities for all ages and abilities. Plus, there are great prizes to be won and lots of free fitness programs to try.

Richmond is once again taking part in this nationwide initiative that encourages communities to be physically active June 1 to 30. By being active, participants will enjoy the physical, mental and social benefits a healthy lifestyle can bring.

The month-long calendar of activities can be found at Activities range from three Richmond Museum self-guided tours, try-it Bhangra classes, swimming laps, playing at the award-winning Terra Nova Adventure Play Environment, and a Richmond Nature Park family walk led by staff. There is also a drop-in family kick-off event on Friday, June 3 at Thompson Community Park (5011 Granville Avenue) from 4 to 6 p.m. Try-it games, fitness demos, Ultimate disc golf and tennis will be part of this free family event.

Another way to become involved is through challenges offered at community recreation facilities, the Richmond Olympic Oval and on the City’s social media channels. Prizes can be won, including workout towels and gift cards to participating facilities. Visit and follow the City’s Facebook and Instagram pages for details.

The ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge encourages Canadians to register and identify where they live to track exercise and activities by community. Residents can track their physical activity minutes through the ParticipACTION Fitness mobile app. Simply download the app, start tracking and help Richmond become Canada’s Most Active Community. Those who track their physical activity on the app will be entered into draws for even more prizes.
