Richmond’s aviation history takes flight in new self-guided walking tour

Explore the charm of Richmond’s second largest island, with the Richmond Museum's newest self-guided walking tour Sea Island: The Aviation Story. The tour can be downloaded at www.richmondmuseum.ca/explore/publications/ and printed or viewed digitally from a mobile device.

Follow the guide and learn how wartime restrictions helped build the close-knit neighbourhood of Burkeville. Watch the busy tarmac at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and be transported back to the 1930s to discover how local car owners helped land planes after dark.

This latest downloadable tour complements the previously released Brighouse and Terra Nova neighbourhood walking tours that were launched in Fall 2020. These award-winning tours go back in time to allow participants of all ages to imagine meeting early farmers and residents, feel the pulse of roaring crowds at the horse racetrack and hear the humming busyness of Richmond’s rich, diverse wetlands.

Tours typically take two hours or less but participants are encouraged to tour at any pace and enjoy the picturesque neighbourhoods.
