Richmond Maritime Festival Re-Imagined 2021 opens this weekend

18 August 2021

Richmond Maritime Festival Re-Imagined takes place at the Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site this Saturday, August 21 and Sunday, August 22 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Live music, storytellers and food trucks will be available across the eight-acre historic site, in addition to a flotilla of wooden boats at the dock.

All pre-registered timed-entry tickets to the Seine Net Loft, docks and Britannia Shipyard building are currently reserved. However, a limited number of walk-up spots will be available during festival hours. The rest of the site will be open to the public and visitors can tour the historic buildings, enjoy a picnic with a range of choices from five food vendors and be entertained by roving performers and storytellers.

The 18th annual Festival can now also be explored online with a new interactive map at www.richmondmaritimefestival.ca, available from 11 a.m. on August 21. The map features exclusive content and a total of 45 videos, featuring storytelling, music and photos. Highlights include the premiere of two new music videos by award-winning independent singer-songwriter Norine Braun; performances by the Cannery Mermaids, The Seabillys and other local musicians; a photo slideshow about the maritime heritage of Steveston; stories about the Britannia Shipyards; and much more.

Due to limited on-site and street parking, complimentary shuttle will be provided between McMath Secondary School (4251 Garry Street) and Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site (5180 Westwater Drive). The first shuttle will depart from the school at 10:30 a.m. with the last return trip from Britannia Shipyards at 7:30 p.m. Shuttles will depart every 30 minutes and be sanitized after each journey. Masks are required on the shuttle.

The City of Richmond is fully committed to operating safely and working to ensure all Provincial Health Orders and recommendations are followed. Please stay home if you are sick, respect personal space while at the Festival and bring your mask as it will also be required inside the buildings.

The Richmond Maritime Festival is presented by the City of Richmond, Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site Society, Richmond Arts Coalition and Anigraph Productions with funding support from the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage grant program.
