Archibald Blair Elementary School
Archibald Blair Elementary School (1997- ) was built to serve the many new homes and apartments constructed north of Granville between Railway and No. 1 Road in the last years of the twentieth century.
The Blair family arrived from Ireland in the late 1800s. They bought farmland south of Steveston Highway near No. 3 Road. Archibald Blair (1896-1993) served with the Canadian Armed Forces overseas in World War I and fought at the historic battle at Vimy Ridge.
After the war, he graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in agriculture and took over the operation of the family farm.
He also gave many years of service to both the Richmond School Board and Richmond Municipal Council. His son Gilbert served on Richmond Council as well and as mayor from 1974 to 1990, leaving his own legacy of public service in the community.
