The City of Richmond will begin extensive upgrades to the intersection of Cambie Road and No. 5 Road beginning Wednesday, July 17. It is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2024.
The construction will result in the following impacts:
- One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained through the intersection
- No left turns will be allowed at the intersection
- Sections of the inside lanes along both No. 5 Road and Cambie Road will be closed
- Traffic control measures will be in place to ensure safe passage of pedestrian, cyclist and vehicle traffic
Hours of work will be from 7:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday, and from 10:00am to 6:00pm on Saturdays when required.
To minimize traffic buildup and delays, it is recommended drivers plan trips accordingly and use alternate routes.
The improvement work includes:
- Construction of dedicated left turn lanes and left turn signals in all four directions of the intersection
- Road widening
- Concrete sidewalks and asphalt multi-use pathways
- Installation of concrete curbs and gutters
- Street lights and traffic signal works
- Installation of associated signage, line painting and other related works
