New Steveston Community Centre and Library update

The new three-storey, 60,350 square foot Steveston Community Centre and Library remains on schedule to open in late-2026.

The new centre will include a double-width gymnasium, fitness centre, library with study areas, community living room, and several multipurpose rooms for community use. It will serve the Steveston community and surrounding neighbourhoods into the future, supporting physical wellness, learning, social connections and creative expression of those who live, work and play in the area.

To ensure the construction schedule remains on-time, plans are well underway to transition existing programs and services into temporary locations nearby and within the community so work can continue. Staff are finalizing details of the new locations and schedules, with information expected to be available to customers and others in early-July.

The temporary relocation of programs and services will also support plans to take down the existing Steveston Community Centre and Library beginning in December 2025. Removal of the current 68-year-old centre will pave the way for full completion and access to the new building in late-2026.

Discussions are also underway with the Steveston Community Society and other partners for celebrations to recognize the historic significance of the original building prior to its removal, and to pass the torch to the bright, new state-of-the-art centre and library replacing it.

Details of the project, as well as information about programs and services that will be moved to temporary locations, can be found on the City website at richmond.ca/steveston.
