The City of Richmond has received $29,522 to enhance its Emergency Operations Centre and improve its ability to coordinate and share critical information during significant community festivals and emergency activations. 

"Preparing for emergencies before they happen is one of the most important ways we can support our community," said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. "This investment strengthens our emergency management capabilities and helps ensure our teams have the tools, information and resources needed to respond effectively and support residents, businesses and visitors."

The project will upgrade the City’s Emergency Operations Centre with updated communications and information technology, including portable display equipment and large-format printing capabilities as well as collaboration technology. The equipment will support emergency activations, training exercises and planned events by helping emergency personnel access, display and share important information more effectively with the community and other response teams.

Investing in emergency preparedness is an ongoing priority for the City of Richmond. By maintaining operational readiness, the City can continue to build community resilience, maintain essential services, apply best practices and work effectively with emergency response partners during challenging situations.

Funding for this project was provided through the 2026 Emergency Operations Centres Equipment and Training funding stream under the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund. 

The Community Emergency Preparedness Fund is administered by the Union of BC Municipalities and funded by the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness.
