Upcoming improvements at Minoru Park will help manage stormwater from surrounding neighbourhoods, improve park habitat and enhance the park experience. The work includes upgrades to the drainage channel south of Minoru Lakes and construction of a new stormwater detention pond.
Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2026, with completion anticipated in summer 2027, depending on weather and site conditions.
When complete, the project will enhance the existing drainage channel south of Minoru Lakes and improve the park’s stormwater management system to accommodate increasing runoff from surrounding neighbourhoods and mitigate impacts from significant rainfall events. The new stormwater detention pond will capture stormwater and provide a sustainable water source for Minoru Lakes.
The project includes:
- Drainage improvements: Widening and enhancing the existing drainage ditch to increase its capacity to manage stormwater, while enhancing it as a park feature.
- Stormwater detention pond: Constructing a new pond to capture stormwater and provide a sustainable water source for Minoru Lakes.
- Bridge crossings: Replaced and upgraded pedestrian bridges over the widened drainage channel.
- Pathway improvements: Enhanced pathways to improve accessibility and connectivity through this area of the park.
- Landscape and habitat enhancements: Adding new planting to support local habitat and create a more welcoming environment along the enhanced drainage ditch.
The improvements will support the City’s commitment to sustainable stormwater management and innovative, low-impact green infrastructure that strengthens environmental resilience while creating inviting places for people to connect with nature in Minoru Park.
For public safety, the active construction area will be fenced and temporary alternative routes will be provided. Park users are asked to follow directional signage and posted instructions when travelling through the area.
