Biography:
Francis (Frank) John Matier was born, circa 1911. Son of John Slater Matier and Jenet Matier (née McLarty) of Steveston, BC. He was one of 9 children.

He was unmarried. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and had his training in St. Thomas, Ontario and in Quebec. He had just attained his promotion to the rank of sergeant prior to his departure. On May 19, 1943 Frank sent his mother a telegram when he arrived in England: "Arrived safely. Birthday letter following." Four days later, on May 23 she received another telegram from the government announcing the death of her son in an air raid over England. Another telegram arrived shortly telling of the burial of her son at Bournemouth North Cemetery, Hampshire, United Kingdom.
