Richmond reaches Collective Agreement with Richmond Firefighters IAFF Local 1286

Brighouse Fire Hall No. 1

The City of Richmond has reached a Collective Agreement with International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Local 1286 that will see the City’s 253 firefighters receive a retroactive wage increase over three years consistent with other Lower Mainland municipalities.

Ratified by the City and the Union, the agreement covers the three-year window from January 2022 to January 2025 and is the result of a comprehensive negotiating process. It reflects the City’s commitment to community safety by providing a fair and equitable compensation structure that supports staff and maintains an experienced and effective team of Richmond Fire-Rescue personnel.

Along with the salary adjustment of 3.5 per cent for 2022 and 4.5 per cent in 2023 and 2024, IAFF Local members will see enhancements to extended health coverage, improved flexibility for hours of work, and other benefits.

The agreement reflects other negotiated public sector Collective Agreements and maintains the City’s competitive position in the region. The adjustments will occur retroactively and are within the City’s approved budget.
